Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Take note Michelle Obama: this is how you do Royal etiquette.

The First Lady drew cries of horror when she touched the back of Her Majesty the Queen on a visit to the UK; Wanda Sykes joked that Ms Obama had patted the head Royal "like she just slid into home plate. Way to go, Queen!"

Yet when a young member of the Dubai elite greeted Her Majesty, he nailed Royal protocol.

Young Mohammed bin Ahmed Jaber Al Harbi, a close acquaintance of Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, is seen in the latter's Instagram post approaching the Queen at Epsom Racecourse on 6 June.

As he gets close to Her Majesty, he takes off his top hat and holds out a hand, just as the Queen can be heard saying something along the lines of "how sweet."

The Queen and the young boy shake hands, before Young Mohammed bin Ahmed walks off, a smile evident across his face.

At the time, the Queen was speaking to Dubai's ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, who is the father of Prince Sheikh Hamdan.

The Prince wrote in a caption next to the video, "Nothing defines respect better than a proper handshake!"
