Three boys were ordered to be locked up in a local authority secure unit yesterday after being convicted of attempted rape on a 13-year-old girl in Wansted Flats, east London, last January. Judge Michael Coombe said at the Old Bailey they had 'seemed to roam wild without parental control' and should not be at liberty while awaiting sentence.

The judge lifted a ban on naming the boys - Peter Chiedozie, 16, George Thomas, 16, and Neil Papley, 15, all of Forest Gate, east London - and told them to expect 'robust custodial sentences'. He said: 'They have committed a very serious crime and . . . I hope it will deter others from behaving in this way.'
