Tributes paid to victims of West Yorkshire quad bike crash that killed four

The first two victims of a quad bike accident that killed four people in West Yorkshire have been named.

Ryal Beal, 20, and Brandon Brown, 20, were killed alongside two women aged 16 and 18 when the quad bike they were riding was hit from behind by a car on the A602 between Upton and Hemsworth, near Wakefield in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Two men, aged 21 and 22, have been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and remain in custody.

Speaking to the Mail Online, Mr Beal's brother Steven paid tribute to him, saying he was due to turn 21 on Tuesday.

He described Mr Beal as a huge rugby fan who doted on his young daughter Ruby.

Mr Steven Beal said he did not know why his brother had decided to take his quad bike onto the road.

Mr Brown died from "critical injuries to his head and body" while being treated at Leeds General Infirmary early on Monday morning. Mr Beal and the two women were pronounced dead at the scene by the emergency services.

West Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses.

DCI Richard Holmes from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, who is leading the enquiry, said: "Widespread investigations are continuing into what is a significant incident on the district's roads which has now tragically now resulted in the loss of four lives.

"Painstaking investigative work is continuing at the scene and the road itself will not be re-opened until tomorrow. The victims are from the local area and are two men aged 20 and two females aged 18 and 16. Their families are currently being supported by specially trained officers and we are not in a position to release any further details of those who have lost their lives at this time."

He said they would also like to speak to anyone who may have seen an unregistered quad bike driving on the road in the Hemsworth area late on Saturday evening.
