From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Just last week footage emerged of the terrifying moment a buggy was blown onto the Tube tracks by a gust of wind.

Now, another video has been released showing a similar event, with a baby in a pushchair rolling off a train platform onto the tracks below.

Fortunately in both cases the baby was rescued and survived the ordeal.

The most recent accident occurred at Whyteleafe station near Caterham in Surrey.

The video shows a mother purchasing a ticket from a ticket machine on the platform of the station, leaving her child in the pushchair behind her.

However, soon after her back is turned, the buggy begins to roll towards the edge of the platform and plummets onto the tracks.

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) found that the mother had not applied the brakes to the pushchair and was also not aware that the platform at Whyteleafe was on a slight slope.

The baby only suffered minor injuries after the fall.

A Southern Railway statement read: "Southern fully co-operated with the RAIB on the investigation and has implemented recommendations made in the report to try and prevent this happening again, including warning posters, advice in our accessibility guide and working with Network Rail to take into account platform slopes when any resurfacing or upgrade work is undertaken.

"We would also remind all users of pushchairs or wheelchairs to apply the brakes when stationary on a platform.”
