Katie Amos, 30, and fiancée Lee Johnston, 29, were on a trip to New York when she gave birth 11 weeks early.
Doctors have ordered that the baby, called Dax, must remain in hospital until 10 March, which could land the couple with a medical bill of up to £130,000.
While Ms Amos was cleared to travel by her insurers, the new parents are now worried that they will not be able to claim for the unforeseen birth of their child.
To try and cover any unexpected costs the pair, who live in Burgh-leMarsh in Lincolnshire, have set up a website called Dax’s Tale of New York, asking for donations of any size to put towards their bill.
Written through Dax’s eyes, the website says: “Mummy and Daddy have no money, no clothes, no friends or family or a familiar face to just say hello to! I know they are scared, but they have some good friends back home that are working very hard to help me!”
Mr Johnston told the Daily Mirror: "The good news is Dax is doing really well. It was just amazing to see Katie holding him.
"The only problem is we aren’t sure if our insurance covers the medical bill."
He added: "We just really want to get home but the main thing is Dax is as safe and as well as possible."
Dax remains in the Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan, while his parents are being accommodated in the a Ronald MacDonald House, a charity that specialises in providing housing for families whose children have been hospitalised.
It is hoped that family will be able to visit Dax soon.
