From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A toddler has died outside his home after the family car rolled onto him.

It is believed the unidentified three-year-old boy was rushed to hospital after the vehicle rolled off the driveway outside the Poole home in Dorset at 3.30pm on Thursday.

Although an air ambulance was scrambled as a precaution, the child was taken by road ambulance to hospital where he later died from his injuries on Friday morning.

The little boy's family are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers. They have requested that they be left in peace to grieve,” Inspector Matt Butler of the Dorset Police Traffic Unit said in a statement.

Insp Butler added an investigation had been launched into events with officers conducting door-to-door inquires with the family’s neighbours.

Police officers were also seen investigating the house, the Bournemouth Echo reported. Three police vehicle, two cars and a van remain outside the home.
