Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

A third man has been found dead on Snowdon in the same spot where two brothers died earlier last week. His body was discovered yesterday by a mountain rescue team as they assisted two walkers who had fallen from Clogwyn Coch, a treacherous spot in icy conditions.

The dead man, who has not been identified, did not belong to the walkers' party and it was unclear how long his body had been on the mountain in North Wales. Brothers James and Christopher McCallion were found dead there on Monday.

In Yorkshire a six-year-old boy died after falling through ice as he and his older brother played on a frozen fishing pond in Streethouse, near Pontefract, at 2.25pm yesterday. Firefighters waded into the chest-deep water to reach the pair. The younger boy, who was trapped beneath the ice for several minutes, was airlifted to hospital but died at 7.05pm. His brother, 12, was clinging to surface ice. He was treated for exposure.
