Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

In conclusive proof that opposites attract, the odd couple of the week were Prince Azim, multisquillionaire prince of Brunei, and Bermondsey bruiser Jade Goody. The pair hung out in nightclubs, accompanied at all times by her dimwit boyfriend Jack. "He wanted to meet me, we met and got on like a house on fire," she said coolly. "He gave me a ring and it is huge, full of diamonds. He said, 'Take this' and I was like, 'I can't'."

Some wonder what the prince sees in the south Londoner, but "a friend" says: "He admires celebrities more for their talent than their celebrity status." Ah, then that would explain it.

Jade and the prince

Prince Azim of Brunei has met his match in 'Big Brother' Race Row Girl Jade. Even if she's not after him for his money, will she ever be able to pronounce his funny foreign name?

The Heather effect

Adnan Khashoggi is said to have paid a record 548.4m in his 1980 divorce. He was later linked to Heather Mills, so he got away lightly.

Chick run

Courtney Love said that Prince Andrew once came round "to look for chicks", drank some tea and asked, "So what do you do all day?"

Love at first sight

When the 89-year-old oil billionaire J Howard Marshall married Anna Nicole Smith, 26, she said it was love at first sight.
