Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The names of 15 alleged paedophiles living on the Paulsgrove Estate in Portsmouth have been supplied to police and council officials after a fortnight of unrest.
The Independent has obtained details of the allegations against 12 of those people on an original list of 20 and proof that some at least were wrongly targeted.
* Julie Legg, 30, who returned to her home on Washbrook Road in Paulsgrove with her husband and three children last week to find that the family car had been fire-bombed and her house burgled. Neither Mrs Legg nor her husband have any convictions.
* Lee Adams, 48, and his wife Wendy, 44, who fled their home in Painswick Close two Sunday's ago after he was labelled a paedophile. Mr Adams has a conviction for a minor, non-sexual offence 28 years ago, according to his family.
* A 17-year-old youth, who has not been named, accused of being a paedophile because he had sex with a 15-year-old girl.
* A father of seven, who lives in Braintree Road, accused of indecent assault on young girls. His wife denies any wrongdoing and the family is among five moved by Portsmouth City Council after they were wrongly targeted.
* A 54-year-old single woman whose home on Abbeydore Road was attacked five days ago and graffiti painted on her front window in the mistaken belief that her brother, who has a paedophile conviction, still lives there. He moved out 17 years ago.
* Two men, now aged in their 30s, who were questioned about separate alleged sexual offences but never charged.
* A further man, age unknown, whose name was circulated among campaigners for reasons of vindictiveness. Campaigners admit he was wrongly targeted.
* Convicted paedophile Victor Burnett, 53, who has offences against 40 children and was described by a judge as a "dangerous corrupter of children", fled his flat after being "named and shamed" by the News Of The World two weeks ago. His flat was ransacked and his sister's car set alight by a mob.
* A man convicted of raping his step-daughter at knife point, who left the estate eight days ago after the front door to his flat was smashed in. His whereabouts are unknown.
* A 42-year-old man allegedly convicted of indecent assault against two girls whose home was attacked two Sunday's ago and left daubed in graffiti reading "perves out". He was living in the house with his wife and brother.
* Two more men alleged to have carried out sexual offences against children who remain on the estate. However there is official confirmation or evidence to substantiate the allegations against them.
