Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The woman, who has not been named, was airlifted to hospital with multiple leg fractures and a pelvic injury after the accident at the bus station on Bridge Street, Walsall.
The 66-year-old, who died in hospital, was one of seven pedestrians injured when a single-decker bus collided with a double decker, two vans and a car at the exit to the bus station at around 11.15 this morning.
Two other women in their 60s were taken to hospital by ambulance with broken legs, along with three men in their 40s suffering minor injuries.
Another patient was treated at the scene for shock.
Martin Eaton, one of the ambulance crews who attended the accident, said: "The incident was serious, but fortunately not bad as it could have been.
"Given the location in the heart of Walsall and the number of vehicles involved, the situation could have been far worse."
West Midlands Police have begun an investigation into the incident, and anyone who saw what happened is asked to contact the road policing unit on 0845 113 5000.
