Abdul Bhatti, 28, a salesman from Hounslow, west London, and a friend had been set on by a gang in Blenheim Crescent on the last evening of the carnival.

Earlier that day, bank holiday Monday, Greg Watson, 21, who was walking with friends in Kensal Road, was stabbed to death. He had a three-week-old daughter. Police say they are looking for a black man who wore a hooded jacket.
Officers believe Mr Bhatti and his friend were attacked by robbers. The men were kicked and punched to the ground by the gang but managed to stagger to the road junction to get help. The friend was treated for face injuries.
Police are appealing to people who took photos or videos of the two streets as the carnival was going on. A spokesman said: "We are looking for witnesses or anyone who was in Westbourne Park Road or Kensington Park Road between 6.30 and 7.30pm on Monday 28 August to contact us."
The last time someone was killed at the Notting Hill Carnival was in 1997. This year there were five stabbings, and 94 people were taken to hospital. A further 405 were treated by paramedics.
More than a million people danced to the Caribbean beat at Europe's biggest street party on Sunday and Monday.
