Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Following the arrests of 100 known London racists yesterday police have charged two Chelsea football fans who were part of an undercover investigation into terreace violence.

A police spokesman said today that Andrew Frain, 36, of Granville Road, Woodley, Reading and Jason Marriner, 32, of Warwick Way, Belgravia, central London, were due to appear before West London Magistrates Court today charged with conspiracy to commit violent disorder.

Metropolitan Police officers made the two arrests in Reading, Berkshire, in connection with the BBC TV series MacIntyre Undercover, in which reporter Donal MacIntyre infiltrated the world of football hooliganism.

Scotland Yard said 18 people have now been charged following dawn raids yesterday in London in which 100 people were arrested.

The suspected offences range from racially aggravated criminal damage, distributing racist literature, harassment and grievous bodily harm to threats to kill.

The raids took place in Newham, Staines, Hounslow, Richmond, Dagenham, Barnet, Brent, Greenwich, Havering, Islington and Reading.

They were part of Operation Athena, co-ordinated by the Met's Racial and Violent Crimes Task Force.

At least 300 officers have been gathering intelligence since February.
