Your support makes all the difference.A British man was under police guard in a Greek hospital after his son died and his daughter was injured when the three plunged from a hotel balcony in Crete earlier this week.
John Hogan, who runs a tiling business from his home in Bradley Stoke in Bristol, was on holiday with his wife, Natasha, when the incident happened. He allegedly jumped with their two children on Tuesday - apparently after a row with his wife - from the fourth-floor balcony of the beachfront Petra Mare hotel in Lerapetra.
Mr Hogan's son, Liam, six, died from injuries he suffered in the incident. The businessman's two-year-old daughter, Mia, suffered a broken arm and is in a stable condition in hospital. Mr Hogan, 32, suffered a broken arm, leg and chest injuries.
A spokeswoman for the Foreign Office yesterday confirmed that Mr Hogan had undergone surgery, but had not yet been charged with any offence.
Police in Crete had said on Wednesday night that he had been charged with murder and attempted murder, but yesterday a spokeswoman said: "Mr Hogan went in for surgery today but he is not likely to be charged until he recovers from that."
She added that Mr Hogan was under police guard at the University General Hospital in Heraklion, Crete.
A hospital spokesman confirmed that Mr Hogan underwent surgery on his left femur and left wrist yesterday morning. After the operation he was transferred to the hospital's intensive-care unit, where his condition was said to be stable.
His daughter is said to be recovering and she could be discharged today.
