The conference yesterday:

Condemned government economic policy and called for targeted public investment and a new tax framework for manufacturing industry;

Deplored excessive profits of privatised service companies, but rejected a call for re- nationalisation;

Called on the executive to carry out an in-depth study of poverty in Britain, and confirmed commitment to a legal minimum wage set initially at half male median earnings;

Rejected a call for repeal of all anti-union laws and for a positive right to strike;

Called for major changes in occupational pension laws;

Supported the Maastricht treaty and called for a campaign for full implementation of the Social Chapter; Rejected a call for MPs to oppose ratification of the Maastricht treaty; Rejected a call for a referendum on the treaty.
