Ken Smith was born in 1938 in Rudston, East Yorkshire. He has worked in Britain and America, held writing fellowships at various universities, and was GLA writer-in-residence at Wormwood Scrubs prison. His most recent collections include Wormwood (1987) and The heart, the border (1990). He also edited the anthology Klaonica: poems for Bosnia (Bloodaxe, 1993) with Judi Benson. This poem is from Tender to the Queen of Spain (Bloodaxe, 1993) price pounds 6.95.
