Judge John Prosser gave permission for Luke Griffin, 15, to be named 'because of the seriousness and gravity of the offences'.
Newport Crown Court was told that Sharon Williams, 39, headmistress at Queen's Hill special school, Newport, Gwent, was left with two fractures of her nose and facial scars.
Griffin, who has 17 previous convictions, said he was deeply ashamed of the attack. The judge said the courts had a duty to protect teachers performing difficult tasks.
