Tax workers vote for action over job losses

Revenue and Customs workers have voted to take industrial action over job losses and privatisation, adding to the disputes facing the Government.

The Public and Commercial Services Union said four-fifths of its 55,000 members had backed industrial action short of a strike, and just over half supported walkouts. The PCS said it was fighting plans to cut thousands of jobs in the department over the next few years, adding that 30,000 posts had already been lost since 2005.

Mark Serwotka, the PCS general secretary, said: "It makes absolutely no economic sense to cut ever more staff from the very department responsible for collecting the taxes that fund all our public services."
