Slowly teasing out the truth in Courtroom 73

The Hutton inquiry will resume tomorrow morning at 10.30am in Courtroom 73 at the Royal Courts of Justice, central London.

Lord Hutton will be assisted in his inquiry by senior counsel James Dingemans QC and junior counsel Peter Knox. A solicitor, Martin Smith from Clifford Chance, and secretary, Lee Hughes, make up the rest of the team.

The inquiry's task is "urgently to conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Dr Kelly".

The process will take a similar form to other high-profile inquiries, including BSE and the Hillsborough disaster.

The inquiry will sit from Mondays to Thursdays for four months. It will start at 10.30am each day, and finish at 4.15pm, with an hour's break for lunch.

It will take evidence in chronological order.

There will be two separate stages to the inquiry - the first will focus on an account of events from those who took part in them. The second will involve the examining and cross-examining of those witnesses.

In the first half of the hearing, witnesses will be questioned by Mr Dingemans only. Mr Dingemans, 39, is experienced in administrative and human rights work, including claims for and against governments.

Only issues of national security will prevent the inquiry sitting in public and the media being free to report its proceedings.
