From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. Not often known for their “harmonious” relations, Sky News made sure that for once all four (one) main party leaders were singing off the same hymn sheet, in a hilarious new edited music video that shows David Cameron, Ed Miliband, Nick Clegg and Nigel Farage miming along to a classic 90s ballad.
Ahead of the seven-way leadership debate tonight, Sky News Channel released the video that sees the leaders’ past speeches and interviews cut together to make it appear as if they are lip-synching to the 1994 All-4-One hit “I Swear”.
The 46-second advert includes David Cameron singing with his eyes closed and some “sultry” boyband looks from Ed Miliband and Nick Clegg. It also incorporates a perfectly cut clip that captures Nigel Farage belting out the line “I’ll be there” with runs and riffs included.
The “Ballot ballad” video was made as part of an advertising campaign for Sky News’ election coverage and seems to have hit the right note with the public, receiving just under 40,000 views on YouTube in three days.
It isn’t the first time Sky has made a video like this either, ahead of George Osbourne’s Budget in March, the broadcaster released a video that saw all four men engage in rap battle. The leaders will be hoping to do one better than the one hit wonders All-4-One though, who in June 1994 only managed to reach number two in the UK charts.
