The incident took place last night in the kitchen of a house in Florence Walk, North Belfast, shortly after 8pm.
BBC Northern Ireland reports that masked men allegedly entered the property and forced the victim into the kitchen, where they hammered one nail into each of his hands.
He was taken to hospital for treatment.
A woman and a baby were present in the house at the time, but were not harmed.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland has appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
