The Chancellor of the Exchequer, in an interview with The Independent, said he wanted: "A dialogue for a purpose in Britain'' to fight inequality. The Chancellor, who is currently in the United States preparing for Britain's presidency of the G8 Group of leading industrialised nations, said his view on politics had been changed by his involvement in the international campaign to combat world poverty. He insisted that overseas aid should not be regarded as compensation but as an investment.
