From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The briefing set out the Brexit-related agenda for the day, analyse key developments over the previous 24 hours in an effort to ensure those campaigning have the latest information they need.
It comes as the government finds itself in fresh trouble in its efforts to find a way through complex Brexit negotiations, while also keeping Brexit backing Tories happy.
The daily news briefing has been developed together by the eight pro-European groups and will include selected quotes, videos and tweets.
Hugo Dixon, editor of InFacts, which is supporting the People’s Vote campaign, said that although Brexit was a “big deal”, it was “not a done deal”
“Our new morning briefing will marshal the arguments showing why the people should have a vote when we know the real deal. Every day we will be taking the fight to the Brexiters camp, with strong messages about how their pet project is falling apart,” he said.
The new Brexit briefing comes as the People’s Vote campaign called for a referendum on the final EU deal.
MPs, celebrities and business leaders joined together to demand voters are given the final say on the deal secured by Theresa May.
James McGrory, executive director of Open Britain, described the launch of the briefing as a “big step forward”.
“It shows what we pro-Europeans can achieve when we work together,” Mr McGrory said.
“The newsletter will be an invaluable resource for our spokespeople and supporters in flagging what are the most important Brexit developments each day and what we should be saying about them.”
“The Brextremists have had their morning briefing – in Brexit Central – for some time now and now the pro-European side of the argument finally have a heavyweight counterbalance.”
Ms May has been forced back to the drawing board to find a post-Brexit customs compromise to unify her cabinet, after ministers could not agree what approach to take.
The prime minister is said to have asked for her two existing options to be revised in a bid to find a consensus following a meeting of her Brexit “war cabinet”.
It means that with five months to go until a Brexit deal is supposed to be set, the UK still has no clear position on exactly what kind of customs arrangements it wants with the EU after withdrawal.
