CATERING: For security reasons, catering contracts for official functions at No 11 Downing Street were 'not usually' put out to tender, Tony Nelson, Economic Secretary to the Treasury, told Austin Mitchell (Lab, Great Grimsby). Mr Nelson said caterers were selected 'from an approved list of contractors who have the necessary security clearance', but he did not provide the list.
BUDGET: An employee earning pounds 13,000 a year would pay an extra pounds 1.94 a week in National Insurance contributions from April 1994 under this month's Budget proposals, Gwyneth Dunwoody (Lab, Crewe and Nantwich) was told.
