FOOD HYGIENE: Only seven slaughterhouses in England have been refused licences under new hygiene rules, John Gummer, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, said. A total of 438 slaughterhouses had been granted licences.

HERCULES: The replacement for the Hercules C130 transport aircraft will be bought 'off the shelf', Jonathan Aitken, Minister for Defence Procurement, said. There were no plans for a development programme, he said.
