More than 2000 people are expected to join over 100 events across the country on the eve of the Conservatives’ annual conference in Birmingham, where Brexit is expected to dominate the agenda.
The “National Day of Action” is being organised by the People’s Vote campaign and is the group’s largest ever day of campaigning.
Activists will take part in more than 1000 door-to-door leafleting sessions to deliver more than a million leaflets as support grows for the public to be given a Final Say on the Brexit deal.
Over the summer, People’s Vote organised a series of rallies across the country, including in Bristol, Edinburgh, Newcastle, and Cambridge.
Campaign efforts have been stepped up in advance of a major “March for the Future” event in London on 20 October, which is being organised in conjunction with The Independent. The march is expected to be the largest ever anti-Brexit event.
People’s Vote is attempting to build public support for a referendum on the final Brexit deal and convince voters that Brexit is not inevitable.
The Conservative conference is expected to be dominated by the party’s splits on Brexit, with Ms May under pressure to ditch her Chequers plan after it was rejected by EU leaders and many of her own MPs.
She is likely to use her keynote speech at the gathering to explain how she intends to secure an agreement with Brussels, having last week admitted that talks were at an “impasse”.
The People’s Vote day of action comes after Labour took a significant step towards backing a Final Say referendum when delegates at the party’s annual conference in Liverpool voted overwhelmingly for a motion that said it “must support all options remaining on the table, including campaigning for a public vote.”
David Gwyther, field manager at the People’s Vote campaign, said: “Our largest ever day of action this Saturday will be a fantastic demonstration of the levels of support across the country for a People’s Vote on the terms of Brexit.
“Thousands of volunteers and campaigners will be taking part across the whole UK, in areas that voted both leave and remain in 2016. The facts have changed massively since then and people want to make their voices heard on Brexit through a People’s Vote.
“Brexit is going to affect generations for generations, so it’s only right that everyone gets a say in the path we take, not just 650 MPs in Westminster. That’s why we are demanding a People’s Vote on the terms of Brexit.”
