At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Jeremy Corbyn has led tributes to Mary Wilson, widow of former Labour prime minister Harold Wilson, after her death aged 102.
The Labour leader said Lady Wilson was a "wonderful poet" who had provided huge support to her husband's general electoral victories in the 1960s and 70s.
She is reported to have died in London's St Thomas' Hospital after suffering a stroke.
Former Labour minister David Hanson also paid tribute to her and praised her support of the party.
Mr Corbyn wrote on Twitter: "Sad to hear of the death of Mary Wilson.
"A wonderful poet and a huge support in Harold's General Election victories. I send my condolences to her family and friends."
Lady Wilson outlived her husband, the MP for Huyton in Merseyside, by more than two decades.
