SUPERMARKETS
Sainsbury: Stores in Northern Ireland already accept Irish punt and will take euro. You can pay by euro cash and cheque. Exchange rate to be displayed.
Tesco: Only stores in Northern Ireland will take euros. Cash and cheque accepted.
Safeway: Stores in Northern Ireland and the port of Harwich in Essex. Euro cash and cheque accepted. Exchange rate will be displayed.
SHOPS
Boots (nationwide): Euro to be accepted at branches in airports and at Waterloo station in London. Cash and cheques taken and exchange rate to be displayed.
Superdrug (nationwide): Several stores in Northern Ireland to accept euro in place of the punt. So far, there are no plans to accept the euro in the rest of the UK.
Gap (nationwide): Not accepting the euro in UK at all.
Tie Rack (nationwide): Euro accepted across UK. Cash and traveller's cheques but no personal cheques.
Waterstone's (nationwide): To take cash and cheques at airport stores and selected central London outlets.
Vodafone (nationwide): Will not be accepting euro on 1 January but hopes to do so "at some point in 2002".
Woolworth (nationwide): Will accept euro in Northern Ireland and Channel Islands. Not on mainland.
Bhs (nationwide): Will accept the euro. Payments can be made by cash and cheque. No exchange rate displayed.
Body Shop (nationwide): Will accept euro cash and cheques in London stores and at airports. Exchange rate displayed.
BP (nationwide): Will take euro cash at locations near Heathrow and ferry ports. Rates will not be on show.
TotalFinaElf (nationwide): Will accept euro cash at selected sites where exchange rate will also be on display.
Dixons (nationwide): Will accept cash and cheques at airport branches. The exchange rate will not be displayed.
Fortnum and Mason (London): Will accept cash and cheques. Exchange rate will not be displayed.
Harrods (London): Cash and cheques accepted. The exchange rate will not be displayed.
HMV (nationwide): A few stores will accept cash and cheques and will display the exchange rate.
Habitat (nationwide): Undecided.
Hamleys (nationwide): Cash and cheques accepted with the exchange rate on display.
John Lewis (nationwide): Will not accept the euro.
Marks & Spencer (nationwide): Will accept cash and cheques in all stores. The exchange rate will be on display.
Next (nationwide): Will take cash at its Gatwick branch and will display the exchange rate.
Selfridges: Will take cash and traveller's cheques but will not display the exchange rate.
Virgin (nationwide): Cash and traveller's cheques accepted. Will not show exchange rate.
HOTELS
The Savoy (London): Will accept euros in cash or by cheque. Exchange rate will not be displayed.
The Hilton (London): Will accept cash and cheques. Exchange rate available on request.
Holiday Inn (nationwide): Have bureaux de change on premises and so will not accept euros.
RESTAURANTS AND CAFES
Hard Rock Café (London): Not from 1 January but will accept euros "at some point in the first quarter of 2002" when cash and cheques will be taken and exchange rate will be displayed on bill.
Pret a' Manger sandwich shops (nationwide): Will accept euros in branches at Heathrow airport and the port of Folkestone. Cash only and no exchange rate displayed.
Starbucks coffee shops (nationwide): Undecided, over longer term but will not accept euro on 1 January.
JD Wetherspoon pubs (nationwide): Will accept euros in branches at Heathrow, Gatwick and Edinburgh airports and at Folkestone and Dover. Cash only and exchange rate not displayed. The company added that it is, however, strongly opposed to the euro.
McDonald's (nationwide): To accept euros at selected few locations which will also display the exchange rate.
Burger King (nationwide): Spokesman said company was undecided.
