The PM has been suffering with otitis which Downing Street said he picked up while surfing in the Algarve in Portugal, where he is on holiday with his family.
It is not the first time Mr Cameron's holiday has been blighted - last Easter he was stung by a jellyfish while swimming in the sea in Lanzarote.
Number 10 said the Prime Minister has now recovered from the common condition and has been enjoying his second holiday of the summer with his wife Samantha and three children.
According to the NHS, otitis is a condition that causes inflammation of the ear canal.
It is often referred to as swimmer's ear because exposure to water can make the ear canal more vulnerable to inflammation.
