Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

As of 2.20am, Paddypower had Leave at 4/7 and Remain at 11/8 while Ladbrokes had 8/15 to 11/8.
Other bookmakers also had similar odds for the first time since the campaign started.

Betting markets, however, appeared confused by the stream of results from across the country.
Betfair odds trading index showed Leave becoming more likely in the early hours of the morning.
Remain then took the lead again an hour later, with the two options crossing back and forth as late-night gamblers piled in on scraps of new news.
Some final polls released on Wednesday night however showed Leave narrowly ahead.
As counting night has progressed it appears that Leave has the advantage – or that the result will be significantly closer than expected.
High turnout in suburban Eurosceptic areas compared to more subdued turnout in metropolitan areas appears to have driven the results.
