Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Mr Johnson will be the first Mayor of London to simultaneously serve in the Cabinet and as the Mayor of London since the local government position was created in 2000.
Mr Cameron said Mr Johnson would focus on his job at Mayor of London, as promised before the general election, but would attend the Tories’ “political cabinet”.
“Boris Johnson will be attending my Political Cabinet. As promised, he will devote his attention to his final year as Mayor of London,” he tweeted.
Before the election the PM hinted that Mr Johnson could be given a Cabinet position.
“I haven’t got a specific job in mind but Boris has got a huge amount of talent and a great track record of running London. I think he can make a contribution at the highest level,” the Prime Minister told the Evening Standard newspaper.
Mr Johnson told Sky News last August that he would not accept a Cabinet position from David Cameron were he returned at the general election.
The Mayor of London appears to have accepted the invitation to attend Cabinet, however.
Mr Johnson will simultaneously receive his MP’s salary of £67,060 and his Mayor of London salary of £143,911.
The Mayor of London was elected to the seat of Uxbridge and South Ruislip at the general election. He will continue to serve as Mayor of London.
