From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A SCHOOL governor drugged young girls and then sexually abused them, recording his assaults on video, a court was told yesterday.
Peter White also used his home computer to print out graphic accounts of his behaviour. White, 44, of Lower Hey, Thornton, Crosby, pleaded guilty at Liverpool Crown Court to 12 offences involving administering a stupefying drug to four sisters, raping one of them when she was seven, attempting to rape her 14-year-old sister and indecently assaulting the four girls and two sisters from another family.
White, a surveyor, was remanded in custody until today for sentence.
Brian Lewis, for the prosecution, said the offences came to light when the 10-year-old said White had touched her breasts. Police went to his home and were surprised when White, a divorcee, said 'It's all in the videos' and showed them the sleeping tablets he had used.
Nigel Gilmour QC, for the defence, said White was ashamed.
