A total eclipse of the moon will be visible to the naked eye tonight. The moon will begin to disappear behind the shadow of the earth from 10pm, and will be totally eclipsed between 11pm and 21 minutes past midnight. The last total eclipse was on 9 February 1990. It happens when the sun, moon and Earth are perfectly aligned in that order.
