Three terrorists shouted "this is for Allah" as they stabbed random victims during the horrifying van and knife rampage at London Bridge last night, according to an eyewitness.
The attackers ploughed into pedestrians as they raced south along the bridge in a white Hermes hire van before crashing into a balustrade outside the Barrowboy and Banker pub just after 10pm.
Chaos ensued as the men left the van wearing fake suicide vests and began to stab bystanders with large knives as they made their way to nearby Borough Market.
Armed police arrived at the scene within eight minutes of the first emergency call and shot the extremists dead.
Seven people were killed during the attack and at least 48 were injured, with some victims remaining in critical condition in hospital.
Bystander Gerard Vowles said he heard the terrorists invoking the name of Allah as they knifed a girl in the street.
He told the BBC: "I saw a geezer lying on the floor saying he'd been stabbed
"I saw these three Muslim guys run up with knives, they ran up and started stabbing this girl. I was defenceless, I couldn't do nothing.
"They attacked her and then they stabbed another guy.
"I started going 'everybody run, they're terrorists, run run'.
"They started running up the road, stabbed the bouncer at the Tavern.
"I was throwing bottles at them, pint glasses, stools, chairs, but I was defenceless.
"They were running up saying 'this is for Allah'.
"They stabbed this girl maybe ten, 15 times. She was saying 'help me, help me'."
Prime Minister Theresa May has called for the UK's terror strategy to be reviewed, saying internet giants and communities need to stop giving extremist ideology a "safe space".
The Muslim Council of Britain joined Islamic groups condemning the attack, saying the terrorists "respect neither life nor faith".
Secretary General Harun Khan said: "I am appalled and angered by the terrorist attacks at London Bridge and Borough Market, in my home city.
"These acts of violence were truly shocking and I condemn them in the strongest terms.
"Muslims everywhere are outraged and disgusted at these cowards who once again have destroyed the lives of our fellow Britons.
"That this should happen in the month of Ramadan, when many Muslims were praying and fasting only goes to show that these people respect neither life nor faith."
