Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Cover against employees
Employers are being offered protection against claims covering job discrimination, sexual harassment and wrongful dismissal by what is claimed to be the first single, stand-alone insurance programme. The product, launched by Marsh & McLennan Global Broking (Bermuda) and XL Insurance Company, offers up to $100m in protection against the soaring cost of claims resulting from employee lawsuits.
Civil justice reforms
Lord Woolf will discuss his proposals for reform of the civil justice system alongside Jonathan Evans, the new minister from the Lord Chancellor's department, at the annual conference of the Legal Aid practitioners group, which will take place on 27 April.
Anti-fraud network
Mishcon de Reya has launched a network of the best fraud specialists in eight countries. Gary Miller, head of the firm's fraud unit, says the MdR Fraud Network has been developed in response to client demand. "There is a real need for specialists in the UK and abroad who are able to provide immediate advice on all areas of fraud, from the investigatory stage through to international tracing and recovery of assets," he adds.
Pollution seminar
The new regime for contaminated land set out in the Environment Act will be examined at a seminar being held by Denton Law tomorrow.
