'House of horror' couple in court
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Withiel Cole, for the prosecution, successfully applied for an adjournment after defence solicitors said they were still processing the large volume of paperwork in the case.
The Wests, who are jointly charged with the murder of nine young women and girls, were making their second court appearance together. They were crammed into a tiny dock at Gloucester magistrates' court, separated by two women police officers and a male officer.
Their alleged victims include their daughter Heather, who was 16 when she disappeared in May 1987. Fred West is further accused of murdering his first wife, Catherine, 26, their daughter Charmaine, eight, and a family nanny, Anne McFall, 18.
Mrs West is further accused of two rape charges - jointly with different men - relating to an under-age girl. It is further alleged she assaulted an eight-year- old boy.
