A young Asian woman is believed to have died by suicide at an Asda supermarket in Shipley, Yorkshire.

According to reports in the local Telegraph and Argus newspaper one shop worker saw the woman, who was wearing traditional dress, stab herself in the neck.

"One of the young men who works there actually saw the woman stabbing herself in the throat. He's in terrible shock", the female witness told the paper.

West Yorkshire police were called to reports that a woman with "serious injuries" was inside the Asda supermarket in Manor Lane, Shipley, at 8.37am today.

Detective Inspector Ryan Bragg of Bradford District CID, said: "The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

"There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and no one else is being sought in connection with the incident. Inquiries are ongoing."

An Asda spokesman said: "We are aware of an incident in our Shipley store this morning and our thoughts are with the individual's family at this time.

"Our priority at this time is looking after our colleagues and supporting the police in their investigation."
