A woman has died after being found on fire in the back garden of a house in northeast London.

London Fire Brigade said it was called to “reports of a person alight” on Lee Avenue, Chadwell Heath, late on Thursday.

“Sadly a woman was confirmed dead at the scene,” a spokesperson said.

The victim was aged in her 30s, according to the Metropolitan Police. The force said her death was “being treated as unexplained” and officers were working to inform next of kin.

LFB and police are investigating the cause of the blaze.

The brigade was called at 11.52pm and sent two fire engines and 10 firefighters from Dagenham station. The fire was extinguished by 12.28am.
