From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Armed officers and a dog unit rushed to a block of flats in Leasowes Drive, in the Merry Hill area of the city, also known as Warstones, where it is believed the man attacked two women before stabbing himself.
Officers said they used stun grenades as they stormed the flat in a bid to distract and detain the attacker.
A woman believed to be in her 30s died at the scene and a man, also believed to be in his 30s, was pronounced dead a short time later from what are thought to be self-inflicted wounds.
Another woman, believed to be in her 50s, was taken to hospital with critical stomach wounds.
A police officer was also treated for minor injuries on the scene by ambulance staff but was quickly discharged at around 9.45am.
An ambulance spokesman said the man and woman suffered "very serious stab wounds" and said the second woman was in Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham with "potentially life-threatening stab wounds".
"Sadly, despite best efforts by ambulance staff, it was not possible to save either of them and they confirmed them dead at the scene," said the spokesman.
Nick Humphreys, a reporter with the Express and Star, said the nearby St Michael's Primary School was temporarily on lockdown.
