From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The hotel which banned Youtubers and Instagram stars has taken to social media to troll vegans.
The White Moose Café, a luxury hotel in Dublin, caused a stir after it publicly refused a “possible collaboration” with UK-based social media personality Elle Darby.
Ms Darby had asked for “free accommodation” in return for recommending others and “bringing traffic”.
The owner of the hotel, Paul Stenson, responded to the request publicly and mocked Ms Darby for the suggestion.
Mr Stenson has now taken to social media to upload a picture of two containers, one titled the “tears of bloggers”, which refers to the fact Ms Darby uploaded a video in response to the saga where she broke down and cried on camera.
The other, titled “ashes of vegans”, refers to The White Moose Café’s previous feud when the hotel had a public spat with the vegan community.
In 2015 Mr Stenson threatened to shoot vegans dead if they attempted to enter his restaurant.
Writing on Facebook he said: “Attention vegans. Please do not waltz into our café with no advance notice and look at us as if we have ten heads when you realise that there aren't 50,000 items on our menu that suit your idiosyncratic dietary requirements.
“Our chef will be more than happy to prepare a number of dishes for you, but a little heads up in advance of your visit would be appreciated. Fair is fair like.”
After wide spread outrage in the vegan community about the post, Mr Stenson replied and said: “Given the torrent of abuse and unjustified negative reviews we have been receiving from the vegan population over the past 24 hours, all vegans are now barred from our cafe.
“Any vegans attempting to enter the café will be shot dead at point blank range.”
