From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Chris Norton, owner of Norton Podiatry in Walsall, says at least three members of the public urinate against the brick wall next to his business every day.
Exasperated at authorities' apparent failure to halt the flow of people relieving themselves a few feet away from his office, he set up a Twitter account called UrineWatch in an effort to shame those responsible.
Mr Norton told The Independent he began noticing the antisocial behaviour in December 2015.
"I have caught two women defecating," he said.
"When approached they told my receptionist to f*** off. I noticed it before Christmas 2015, and informed the council in January.
"These men drink their beer, discard their cans on the ground and then pee up the walls in front of children and elderly.
"We need regular patrols by police or their council officers and more bins, although the men probably wouldn't use them anyway."
Images posted also include those of empty beer cans and groups of people congregating in the neighbouring, but disused car park.
Deputy leader of Walsall Council, Councillor Adrian Andrew told the Independent that Mr Norton was right to "escalate the problem".
“No one should have to put up with this disgusting behaviour," he said.
"Officers are gathering information, which includes Mr Norton’s evidence, and talking to other businesses in the area and the police to determine our next course of action.
“We’re looking to establish a Public Space Protection Order for the town centre to combat anti-social behaviour problems such as this.
“In the meantime, the police have reassured us that they will step up their foot patrols to displace the issue.
“Both myself and the majority of residents in Walsall are proud of this town. We’ve worked damn hard to attract investment here and I’m not going to allow the behaviour of a few to cause such a stink.”
"We’ve alerted the police who are making plans to step up their foot patrols whilst we look for a solution to this wholly unacceptable situation."
To combat such behaviour, Hackney Council in London trialled anti-pee walls last December that are designed to "bounce" the liquid back onto urinating party-goers.
