From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Snowfall overnight has caused disruption across parts of England and forced a major airport to close temporarily.

A yellow warning of snow is in place for the west coast of Scotland, Northern Ireland, north-west England and much of the Midlands.

Weather warnings from the Met Office said icy stretches could also form on untreated surfaces, two days after Britain experienced the coldest night of the year.

Leeds Bradford Airport closed due to the snowfall but has told passengers to arrive as normal.

A spokesman for the airport said it would be shut until 9am after around five centimetres of snow came down during the night.

The spokesman said snow ploughs and gritters were working along the runways and passengers should arrive as normal, but warned passengers to expect knock-on delays.

The Met Office said parts of the north-east, Midlands and South Yorkshire have seen a covering of snow overnight, even at low level.

A spokesperson for the Met Office told The Independent: "A few places got between one and four centimetres overnight and up to ten centimetres on higher ground over the south Pennines.

“We still have 16 cm of lying snow in Aviemore in Scotland."

However, he said patches of rain, snow and sleet are expected to die out later today and the weather will become much drier.
