From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

In some parts the mercury will rise into double figures, with sheltered areas in the sunshine feeling particularly pleasant.
Temperatures four degrees higher than average - at 11C - were felt as far afield as Leeming and Linton on Ouse in North Yorkshire, Plymouth in Devon, Leuchars in Fife, and Aboyne in Aberdeenshire, Met Office Dan Williams told The Independent.
However, other part were not offered the same level of respite, and were still experiencing temperatures as low as four or five – meaning the sun is playing an important factor in what feels like milder weather.
The pleasant climes come after snow blanketed parts of the UK, causing school closures and travel disruptions - including Manchester Airport temporarily shutting down.
Mr Williams explained that the sun is getting a little stronger as we head towards the end of winter.
He added the calm weather is caused by high pressure sitting over the UK, meaning it is likely to be “dry and settled” for the rest of the week until the weekend, while there might be some rain on Friday.
“A few places have seen a good deal of sunshine and enjoyed some pretty nice temperatures today, and it will feel quite mild out in the sun and feel very nice indeed," he said.
“But some places will have had pretty chilly day with cloudy conditions so it’s a real mixed bag, but everyone will be seeing pretty conditions," he added.
