Two lanes on the southbound carriageway of the M6 remain closed today after an accident that left a car hanging off the M6 in Merseyside.

Dramatic images from the Highways Agency show the vehicle teetering over the edge of the M6 carriageway at junction 23, near Haydock.

According to the North West Ambulance Service one of the people in the car suffered an injury to their leg following the accident at 08:32 this morning.

Nobody was seriously hurt in the incident but the closure of the road has caused significant delays.
