The new Mayor's policy comes into effect from tomorrow and outlaws the consumption of alcohol on all public transport in the capital. But the move has prompted a spate of "last- stand parties" that will take to the rails today. Many have been organised using social networking websites such as Facebook.
The largest group, with more than 3,650 members – enough to take over at least three trains – carries the name One Final Tube Booze Party. It will meet at Liverpool Street today, "from noonish until as long as we last (get thrown off!)".
Superintendent Ellie Bird of British Transport Police said: "We will have an increased number of officers deployed for a number of events on Saturday."
