Your support makes all the difference.The family of a cyclist who died after he was struck by a car have paid tribute to a keen gardener who had overcome cancer.
Garry Hobson, 68, died on arrival at hospital after being found in Uxbridge Street in Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire, on the evening of September 2.
The former Bovril worker had won several local awards for his green-fingered skills since retiring in 2008.
Today his widow Molly Hobson said family and friends had been left devastated by the death.
In a statement she said: "Our family and friends have been left devastated and shocked by the news of Garry's tragic death, which has also been made worse due to the nature of the incident.
"Garry retired in 2008 after a long career with Bovril. His passion was for gardening and he won several awards for it, including Burton in Bloom.
"He had overcome several obstacles in his life including cancer. He was a strong, fit and determined man and he cycled everywhere he went.
"Garry was very kind-hearted and generous with his time, he possessed old fashioned community values and would help anyone out when needed."
Mrs Hobson said the family had been overwhelmed by the tributes and support from the local community.
"Garry was such a determined, hard working and loving husband, father, brother and grandfather and he will be sadly missed by everyone," she added.
Staffordshire Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the accident to come forward.
A 30-year-old man from Burton has been charged in connection with the accident and will next appear at Stafford Crown Court next month.
A second man, a 26-year-old also from Burton, was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. He has been released on police bail, pending further inquiries.
