The three-year-old girl is understood to have tried to board a train at Baker Street station “while her carer’s back was turned” and fell through the gap between the stationary train and the platform. She was quickly pulled to safety by other passengers.
The girl was with her nanny and younger sibling when the incident occurred, according to the Evening Standard.
She was left with a bruise to her forehead after her head hit the metal foot plate of the train.
A witness told The Standard: “The little girl was waiting with an adult and another smaller child and was getting ready to board the train.
“There’s a gap on the platform where the track bends around and she fell into that gap. Some gaps are big enough for me to fit in."
A spokesperson for TfL told The Independent the girl was taken to hospital as a precaution but is not thought to have sustained any other injuries.
In a statement, Steve White, Operations Director, London Underground, said: “Yesterday afternoon a young girl fell between a train and the platform at Baker Street station.
“An investigation is underway but it seems that while her carer’s back was turned, the girl stepped into the gap between the platform and train. The train was stationary throughout and the girl was pulled out straight away. Our staff made sure that she was taken to hospital as a precaution.”
TFL stressed that the incident was “very different” to a separate event last week, when a woman was dragged a few feet by a Tube in Clapham South after her dress became caught in the door. The 28-year-old was freed by firefighters and was not seriously injured during the incident.
Mick Cash, leader of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union, described the fall as “shocking”.
“RMT is awaiting the outcome of the investigations by the Office for Rail Regulation,” he said.
"However, once again, RMT warned that there were dangerous gaps between the platforms and the trains with this rolling stock.
"This incident again exposes the lethal nonsense of cutting station staff on the underground network."
