The teenager was hit by a ScotRail passenger train in Paisley, Renfrewshire, on Saturday evening. He is believed to have run out in front of one train before being hit by the 4.50pm Glasgow to Ardrossan train coming the other way.

Seven trains were cancelled as a result of the incident, and 36 services were delayed more than seven hours. The boy has not yet been named.

A man in his mid-20s died when he was hit by the ScotRail Aberdeen to Glasgow train on Saturday night. The train had been about to enter the Queen Street tunnel near Fountainwell Place, Glasgow.

On Wednesday, a middle-aged man was also killed in a train accident at Baillieston railway station in Glasgow.

* A railway contract worker died when an engineering train crashed into the back of a stationary train on the main Belfast to Bangor line in Co Down early yesterday.

Terence Lowry, 39, from Doncaster in South Yorkshire, was part of a team relaying a section of the line. Two other workers were injured. An investigation has been opened.
