From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The pills were found by customers in the supermarket’s four chocolate and nut ice cream cones. All best before dated boxes up to and including July 2014 are being recalled.
“Tesco has recalled the affected products from consumers on a precautionary basis. Product recall notices will be placed in stores, explaining the reason for recall,” a statement on the Food Standards Agency's website said.
“If you have bought this product, do not eat it,” it added. A spokesman for the supermarket said there have been no reports of any illness.
“We are urgently investigating this incident with our supplier and ask customers to return this product to their local store,” the spokesperson said.
Customers are advised to return packs to a store for a full refund or to contact Tesco customer services on 0800 50 55 55.
No other Tesco products are known to be affected, the FSA said.
