Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.A reward has been offered to help catch a saboteur who left a rope stretched across a woodland trail which knocked a cyclist off his mountain bike.
Lukasz Sikorski was lucky not to be badly injured when he was clothes-lined by the blue corded rope which was tied between two trees in Hamsterley Forest, Co Durham, on Sunday.
His fall as he descended the snowy trail at 20mph was captured on his helmet camera.
Mr Sikorski, originally from Poland, looked bewildered after the crash, which came on a steep slope after a tight bend.
Craig Hunter, of the Descend Hamsterley track, posted a message on the site's web page urging other users to beware.
He said: "By rights this user should have received serious injuries - possibly fatal.
"We stress that this is a pure attempt to seriously injure users of the facility.
"A substantial reward has been offered to anyone who has any info which leads to an arrest."
Durham Police have also appealed for information about the incident.
