From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. A Queen’s Guard soldier has been filmed bellowing at a dancing tourist to get away from St James’s Palace.

The soldier, believed to be part of the Scots Guard regiment, is heard shouting: “Haw, get yersel’ away!”

The video posted to YouTube, which has been watched more than 46,000 times, shows the man looking startled as the guard, wearing a bearskin hat, suddenly turns and shouts at him to move away from the palace in Westminster.

As the man walks away from the area, the guard yells, in what appears to be a heavy Scottish accent, for him to “turn the camera off”.

Many online commentators have applauded the guard’s actions, saying he was doing his job.

“The ‘tourist’ was being disrespectful so was told to go away – end of story,” one person said.

“Those Guards are the first line of defence for the Crown and they see thousands of very strange people haunting London every year. We are all sick to death of them,” another commenter added.

“He is making a mockery of the guards,” someone else said.

Others thought the soldier’s reaction might have been too harsh.

“Lol, even the other guard was like That escalated quickly,” one said.

“I love how the other guard is like ‘chill out man’,” said another.

It is unclear when the video was filmed, but it was posted on YouTube in January.
